Our Story

Karman is a career artist with over 30 years experience hand-crafting and designing traditional Iranian wedding ceremonies.

Combining her expertise of Eastern design with contemporary perfumery is the crux of SHOLEH fragrances.

Her and her son take classically Eastern aromas and frame them with familiar and contemporary scents to create something new and exciting.

Frequently asked questions

  • Why coconut wax?

It burns clean, comes from a sustainable resource, and is better than soy wax at dispersing scent into the air.

  • What does Sholeh mean? and what is that little symbol under the E?

Sholeh means flame in the farsi language and the symbol under the e describes the proper pronunciation. It is part of the international phonetic alphabet and represents the mid-front unrounded "e" sound 🙂

  • Do you use real opium?

Nope! We find the aroma interesting and try to recreate something that sets the mood to dark, smooth, and a little smokey.

  • Do you use fragrance oils or essential oils?

Both. We are 100% vegan, so if the harvesting of an oil harms an animal (ie civet, castoreum, musk) we use a fragrance oil replica. We also try to be as sustainable as possible, so if the harvesting of an oil is not good for the environment (ie Oud from the over-harvested agarwood tree) we use a fragrance oil alternative.

  • Why only 4 lines?

We are somewhat picky. Since each of our candles introduces one rare Eastern aroma, we take time to make sure the other scents we mix it with compliment it well. We have to also make sure our fragrances burn well with coconut wax, have a strong scent throw, an have balanced top, middle, and bottom notes.

  • Can we make requests for you to develop a specific new line?

We are always open to hearing the ideas! Please let us know and we can discuss. Email us at team@sholehfragrances.com
